good and not so…

I have some fantastic news and some more glum news.

My blog got nominated for two categories in Book Blog Appreciation Week awards- Best Special Interest (I\’m guessing for all the animal books!) and Best Non-Fiction Blog!! I couldn\’t believe it. I\’m so excited to be a part of this, and thank you thank you to whoever nominated me!

The glum news is I busted my toe. (In a really stupid way: I accidentally kicked a brick that edges the garden). You would not believe how much a broken pinkie toe hurts. It\’s really silly, but half my usual tasks of the day I simply can\’t do, and the other half is all more awkward and takes twice as long. So by the time I can lie down and put my foot up I\’m too tired to do much more than read a few pages and doze off. I have two reviews needing to be written, and feel like I\’ve been rather neglecting the commenting I usually do on other blogs. It might be a bit quiet here for a while, but I\’m still around and will catch up when I can.

  1. Ouch!! I've never broken anything, knock on wood. That's a bummer, Jeane. You take care of your tootsie and take solace in knowing we love you, as exhibited by those awesome nominations!Lezlie

  2. Bermudaonion- I haven't worn shoes on that foot since I broke it, which was actually five days ago. Just able to put sock on again the first time yesterday.Lezlie- It's the first time I've broken anything! I couldn't believe it; I didn't even fall down or anything, just stubbed my toe.

  3. Ooohhh, feel your pain! I broke my pinky toe last year, and not only did it take FOREVER to heal, but it was the most painful injury I've ever had (and I have had breaks and sprains in various places before.) I don't understand why something so small can hurt so much! Hope yours heals faster ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Make sure that the doctor takes an x-ray, they tend to blow you off sometimes about broken toes…learned the hardway by dropping desks on both feet within the span of two years. Walked around for weeks in pain until they called up and said \”Oh, we just checked your x-ray again, you should stay off your feet entirely! Now they are permanently broken on one foot and that's just the way they will stay…STAY OFF YOUR FEET! Don't let anyone guilt you into doing anything. Order out for dinner! ๐Ÿ™‚ Feel better.

  5. Thanks, everyone! Yeah, they took x-rays. It was broken pretty clean, and still \”lined up well\” so the dr. taped it and put me in a stiff shoe/boot thing, w/crutches for just in case. I've actually been using them a lot, and keeping off my feet as much as possible but it's hard w/a little kid and no one else to do the housework!

  6. Ugh. There is nothing worse than a hurt toe. You can't do much for them, and pretty much ensures your inability to wear shoes. Perhaps the joy of the nominations will offset the annoyance? Way to go girl!

  7. Congratulations Jeane!! I'm so pleased for you! I was nominated too, for the first time, and it's so delightful and little bit awesome, isn't it? No matter who wins, it's the appreciation that counts. ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. Congrats! Ouch about the toe-I broke my pinkie finger when was seven, but at least I didn't have to put my body weight on it!

  9. Congrats Jeane–I definitely think you fit well within the special interest category! ๐Ÿ™‚ Somehow I landed in the non-fiction blog nominations but after realizing that only 25% of my reads this year have been non-fiction I withdrew my name. Makes me sad, but oh well.I'm sorry about your toe and I do believe how bad it hurts. I've never broken mine but man does it hurt when I've stubbed it. Feel better soon!!

  10. Congratulations on the nominations – very well deserved! I absolutely completely sympathize with your toe pain. I injured my big toe about a year ago (I won't go into the dreadful details as they are v. yucky), and I could not believe how disabling it was to have one messed up toe. I hope it starts feeling better soon!
