Yeah, I’m still reading some of these. I should steer away from the shorter, more juvenile ones though, they don’t quite interest me as much. Like this one. It’s a nice enough story, with a good message, though. About a group of girls who are in a summer surfing camp. There’s a team competition coming up and the main character, Jill, doesn’t have a partner. She decides to work with one of the younger girls who isn’t experienced and can barely stay up on her board, much less surf with any skill (she’s more of a swimmer). So Jill works with the new girl in the shallows, all the while longing to be out in the bigger waves. When a storm comes up, some of the other girls who had been teasing Jill and her new partner (and getting in their way a lot, then denying it), decide to go out and recklessly surf the big waves. Jill and two other surfers make the effort to get help and do what they can to rescue the mean girls. And the new girl proves to be a strong swimmer, so she has a key part in the rescue, even though she still can’t surf well. In the end, Jill realizes she doesn’t care so much about the competition after all.
