Another skateboarding story. One of the shorter ones, which doesn’t appeal to me quiet as much, I read it because I just needed something to read. It’s about two kids who practice their skills at a local indoor skate park. They’re getting ready for an upcoming competition. Then a trio of older boys show up, who harass and tease them, pretty much taking over the space. The boy always turns the other cheek, and looks for non-confrontational ways to solve the problem. His friend, an outspoken girl, is ready to pick a fight and has to be talked out of swinging her first (or her board) at the older boy, time and time again. Finally in the end, at the competition, the older bully shows his true colors in front of everyone, and gets called out on it. He messes up our main character’s run on the street course and gets kicked out of the park for it. The two main kids have a glimpse of where this bully comes from, seeing some interactions between him and his aggressive father. It doesn’t really make things better, but it explains a few things, and they’re pretty sure he won’t come back.
That’s about it. Some terms defined in the back pages specific to skateboarding with a little history, as usual per this series.
